Unlock Alabama is a platform and community for Alabama’s next generation of builders and creators — the ones with ideas, curiosity, and grit.
Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur, an employee who wants to think more creatively, or just entrecurious, you’re in the right spot.
At the center is a challenge sprint: an intense, structured 8-week build period where participants commit to shipping something real and public — a website, a prototype, a workflow automation, a product concept, a new business, or a creative project built with modern AI tools.
By offering accountability, resources, and mentorship, our mission is to empower young Alabama residents to bring their ideas to life.
Starting May 2026, accepted builders receive free access to our online community’s premium tier, the opportunity to win prizes, and direct connections to investors.

Is there a cost to particpate?
No. The online cohort is completely free for accepted builders.
How long is the cohort and is there a time commitment?
The cohort is 8 weeks, starting in May 2026, and takes place entirely online. We’ll have weekly live calls — and we’ll work with the cohort to find a time that works for everyone. All sessions are recorded too, so if you can’t make it live, you won’t miss a thing.
Do I have to be a student?
No. The cohort is open to all Alabama residents of all ages. But we especially encourage those ages 18–29 to apply, as keeping young talent in Alabama is core to our mission.
Do I need to have a business idea to apply?
Not at all. Come as you are. The program will help you explore, develop, and pressure-test ideas along the way.
Do I have to be an entrepreneur?
Nope. Employees are very welcome. Many people find that going through Unlock Alabama helps them think more creatively and bring fresh energy to their current role.
Am I too much of a beginner? Or too advanced?
Neither. Beginners will build foundational skills and start shaping their ideas. More experienced entrepreneurs will sharpen what they already have and push their projects further. There’s something in it for everyone.
What is a guide?
Guides are experienced entrepreneurs and professionals who support builders throughout the cohort by sharing their knowledge, feedback, and real-world perspective. We even encourage our guides to build alongside our builders! Apply to be a guide here.
What is the event on July 17-18?
The Builder Summit is our culminating in-person event in Mobile, Alabama. It’s where cohort completers showcase what they’ve built, connect with investors, and network with other Alabama builders. More details coming soon…
